There are many types of acne. The most common is called acne vulgaris. Just beneath the surface of the skin lie hundreds of tiny glands called sebaceous glands. Their function is to collect and excrete the oily substance called sebum to keep the skin healthy. The tiny pathway for the sebum to escape often becomes clogged, and a bacterium called p. acnes grows inside. In a short time, the area swells up with inflammation and forms a pimple on the skin. Some individuals live with merely clogged pores referred to as comedonal acne; some with red bumps, called inflammatory/cystic acne and many with both.

There are many treatments for moderate acne including creams, washes, and oral medications. Unfortunately, many patients cannot tolerate the common side effects and limitations of available treatments such as topical irritation and dryness, gastrointestinal difficulties, and antibiotic resistance. If mild to moderate acne is not responding to medications or there are reasons that you cannot be on these medications, then other therapies may be right for you.

At Khrom Dermatology, we can offer state of the art technology for the treatment of acne, including treatment with Blue Light, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), and salicylic acid peels. For acne scarring, a more agrressive regimen is offered, including TCA peels for deep acne scarring as well as Pixel Laser Treatment and Plasma skin resurfacing.

It’s Never too late to reverse acne scarring

Atopic Dermatitis
Atopic Dermatitis (eczema) is an itchy inflammation of the skin. A chronic condition that may be accompanied by asthma or hay fever, eczema is most often seen in infants and children, but it can continue into adulthood or first appear later in life. In resistant cases, treatment with the UVB XTRACT laser may be of help. This procedure is frequently covered by your insurance carrier
Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that appears on the skin. The most common form, plaque psoriasis, appears as raised, red patches or lesions covered with a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells, called scale. Psoriasis can occur on any part of the body and may be associated with other serious health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and depression. Although we have an armamentarium of new biologic medications that have been extremely successful in the treatment of psoriasis, ultraviolet light treatment is still widely utilized for the treatment of psoriasis.
Vitiligo is an autoimmune condition that develops once our own immune system attacks the melanocytes – the pigment producing cells of the skin. It develops on the skin in the form of white spots that vary in size and location. The spots occur when pigment cells, or melanocytes, are destroyed, and the pigment melanin can no longer be produced. About half of those who develop this skin disorder experience some pigment loss before the age of 20, and about one third of all vitiligo patients report that other family members also have this condition.
Allergic Contact Dermatitis
This is a skin reaction that takes place when your skin comes into contact with substances that you are allergic to. The skin can become itchy, cracked, red, sore, or prone to bleeding. The substances that cause this reaction can be an ingredient in your makeup, aftershave, shampoo, jewelry, medication, and clothing. You may also find these substances at work in your cleaning supplies, paper and ink, medicines, disinfectants, construction materials and rubber products. At Khrom Dermatology, we offer a panel of up to 100 contact allergens to help identify the culprit of your allergic reactions.
This is a medical condition in which a person sweats extremely and unpredictably. People with Hyperhydrosis may sweat even when the temperature is cool or when they are at rest. Hyperhydrosis usually begins at puberty and affects the palms, soles of the feet and armpits.
